Central Texas Water Maintenance Logo/IdentityThis client came to us with an existing employee-designed identity featuring a water tower as the primary graphic element that was dated and immature. The main focus of the business is to provide installation, maintenance and support to municipal utility district (MUD) potable water delivery systems around Austin. Logo design was a key part of our directive in helping re-brand this business during an expansion phase. A highly specialized field requiring significant mechanical and technical knowledge of many different systems, the idea of our new logo design concept was to create a high sense of trust and establishment from a local, Texas-based company that is also at the forefront of current and coming industry advances.During our initial logo design phase, we explored many options with type and symbols. What rose to the top of our efforts was the idea that the business needed to appear like a utility company to be considered of the same level of authority, but in a modern way to indicate the idea of "leading edge.” The modified Texas star stood out as a way to achieve those objectives. To be clear about the idea of "clean water", we chose to use the star shape as a container with a rich blue to indicate water. The rounded points of the star and the custom designed typography utilizing the same design tenets help keep the design friendly, while the strong horizontal and vertical lines of the text maintain a sense of stability. The final logo design is built in what we refer to as a "convertible" fashion, where type and symbol are related but also separate elements that can be successful and recognizable in a vertical or horizontal format, and also as separate items if appropriate. The graphic simplicity of the design also follows good logo rules allowing for a wide range of scale and application. |
